NBA.com:
"Boston, Oct. 28 – The Boston Celtics regretfully announce the passing of President Arnold 'Red' Auerbach. Auerbach, 89 and who was born on September 20, 1917, passed away suddenly today in Washington, DC."

Another basketball legend from my youth has died. We will miss you 'Red' and your victory cigars.

FOXNews.com - IRS Makes it Cheaper to Call Long Distance - Finance | Personal | Business | Personal Finances:

Good news, the IRS is paying me money this year (and you as well)

"While it may have only added a dollar or so to the average household’s monthly phone bill, when you multiply this by every home and business with telephone service you can see how this seemingly tiny amount adds up. By the Treasury Department’s own estimate, it could end up refunding as much as $10 million.

The good news is that to receive a refund you don’t have to resurrect all of your phone bills dating back to March 2003. The IRS looked at data provided by phone companies and came up with an average amount of tax paid based on the number of individuals in a household. From this they came up with “standard” refund amounts tied to the number of exemptions you claim on your tax return:

Exemptions Standard Refund
1 ----------------$30
2 ----------------$40
3 ----------------$50
4 ----------------$60

In other words, a family of four will get $60 back. ($60 is the maximum refund.)"

Maybe it is not much but it helps...

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Michael J Fox makes stem cell ads:
"'What you do in Missouri matters to millions of Americans. Americans like me,' the actor says in a campaign advert.

'Senator Jim Talent opposes extending stem cell research. Senator Talent even wanted to criminalise the science which gives us a chance for hope.'"

Yes Mr. Fox, you are right to say that it matters to millions of Americans. And I hope you understand me when I say, I do not want what could have been a viable human life to support a cure for me or for you. Can you honestly say that you want to kill a person so that you can live. I would not want that on my conscious. But then again, I am not a big Hollywood star, just an average Joe (or Bob in my case).

FOXNews.com - Father Pulls Gun on Football Coach Over Son's Playing Time
"PHILADELPHIA ‚Â? A father pulled a gun on a youth football coach because his son wasn't getting enough playing time, police said.

Wayne Derkotch, 40, was arguing with the coach Sunday morning during a game of 6- and 7-year-olds in northeast Philadelphia when he pulled out the gun, police said."

A little overcompetitivee I would say. If you feel the need to threaten the coach at all maybe you should ask yourself if the kid has the talent in the first place.

ThatsRacin.com | 10/24/2006 | Rookie David Ragan fails to get clearance needed to drive for Roush at Atlanta:
"Rookie David Ragan, who is supposed to drive Roush Racing's No. 6 Ford in the Nextel Cup Series next season, has not received clearance to compete on NASCAR tracks more than 1-mile in length, NASCAR officials confirmed Tuesday.

'David Ragan's status has not changed. He is currently approved on NASCAR tracks 1-mile in length or less,' said NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp."

And all the NASCAR drivers said AMEN! That driver is an accident waiting to happen. You do not race a top 10 car like he did when he was 3 laps down. Tony Steward says he is a dart with no feathers. I do not know what Jack Rouch sees in that driver. Let us hope that he is gone soon. Oh the other hand the sponsor for his car may like the publicity. He is to drive the AAA car next year.
